Carefully conceived clinical trials based on cutting edge scientific
discoveries will slowly but surely crack the cancer problem. With the
explosion of knowledge about the causes of cancer, new diagnostic
methods and treatments can be designed. HOWEVER, knowing what works in cells in agar dishes or in animal tumors and translating that into what MAY work for humans requires a well-designed clinical trial.
Clinical Trials are where these new strategies--for diagnosis or
treatment or both--are tested. All clinical trials must be approved by
a Human Subjects Protection Board, often called an "IRB" Institutional
Review Board. The following links address clinical research in humans.
