End Of Life Issues

My dear patients,
Dr Atul Gawande is an unusually sensitive, thoughtful, and well-spoken doctor who has written a number of important books about how doctors, patients, and health care systems can work together for the best outcome. In this article in the Aug 2, 2010 issue of The New Yorker, he sensitively deals with “end of life” issues thru the eyes of a family of a young pregnant woman who has an incurable lung cancer. The juxtaposition of life and death in this woman helps him frame the issues we must all personally review as mortal beings and that we must help our loved ones deal with as members of their care team. While it is a bit lengthy, it is engaging and very honest. I urge you to download this and read it. It is free and this is a respected publication without concern about viruses, etc, from the download.
